The Circus On Tour

Virgile Around The World

THE CIRCUS

Introducing Our Intrepid Traveller

Running The Circus Hostel, Hotel and Apartments in Berlin means that for most of the time, the world comes to visit us. But of course, we wouldn’t be in the business of hospitality if we didn’t like travel ourselves, especially for all the ideas that we can collect along the way and bring home with us.

Which is why we have just sent a member of our team on a trip around the world. Virgile, who can normally be found in The Circus Hotel serving breakfast to our guests, is currently on an adventure to explore the best of low budget travel on the planet, meet people, gather ideas, make new friends and partners, and introduce The Circus along the way.

Virgile’s trip started in Copenhagen and takes in more than 20 destinations in all as he moves on to Athens, Bucharest, London, New York, Dallas, Mexico City, Los Angeles, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh City, Taipei, Xiamen, Bangkok, Shenzhen, Seoul, Manilla, Kochi, Mumbai and Jeddah (with some others along the way), before he finally returns to Berlin.

It’s an incredible trip and we are really excited to hear all about it, but before he left we caught up with Virgile to learn a little bit more about him and to see what he was looking forward most in his trip around the world.

Why travel?

I think travelling is really important, to discover new cultures and new ways of living. It is a privilege, of course, but when you have a chance to do it, it really brings you views on other people’s lives and conditions … (On a personal level), I am really interested in art and architecture and it is always amazing to discover new aesthetics that you are not used to…

What is your ideal hostel?

For me, the ideal hostel is located in the historic centre (of a city), in an old building. The cherry on the cake would be a rooftop with a view over the city! Perhaps with a little bar or music. In rooms, I am looking for privacy and comfort, and for the common area I want them full of energy and joyful spirit. A must is also local staff that can give you advice and tips for your trip.

What is your favourite street food?

It’s a good question! I think I’ll go for the Brooklyn sliced pizza, especially the pepperoni one and the Turkish gözleme, which are just excellent!

What are you looking forward to most on your trip?

The first that came to mind is maybe the Teotihuacan pyramids, close to Mexico City, which I think must be very impressive. Also, I’m extremely curious to discover cities such as Guangzou in China or Manila in the Philippines, because I think they are quite opposite to what I know and what I am used to. So, yes, I’m really curious about that!

Aside from being incredibly jealous about his trip, all of us at The Circus wish Virgile all the best for his journey around the world and we can’t wait to hear all about it. We’ll post some updates here on the website, but you can also follow his adventures by giving us a follow over on Instagram.
