The Circus + The 2022 Berlin Writing Prize

We love stories at The Circus. From our brewery taproom at The Circus Hostel to the lounge at The Circus Hotel you’ll find books to borrow and read. We regularly host literary tours and events, commissioned a series of short storiesabout Rosenthaler Platz and – with The Circus Sammelsurium – have even published a book of our own.

We have also been a regular partner for the Berlin Writing Prize, run by The Reader Berlin and SAND Journal, and 2022 is no different. So if you’re a fan of The Circus with a story to tell then read on to find out how you can win three weeks with us for a very special writing residency in Berlin.

The theme of the 2022 Berlin Writing Prize is ‘Escape’ and entries are open to published and unpublished writers from anywhere in the world. The winner will receive a three-week residency at The Circus Hotel in January 2023, while two runners up will win a two-night stay during the competition prize-giving event. The three winners will also have their stories published on the SAND Journal website.

It’s important to know that the deadline for the competition is 15th August 2022 – so there’s not much time left! Over on the competition website you can find all the details about how to enter, including word length and all the important dates, and you can also learn a little bit more about the judges – one of whom is a familiar face for anyone who has stayed with us in the past!

We’ve supported the Berlin Writing Prize for a number of years and have really enjoyed welcoming the winners for their residencies with us. We can’t wait to see what writers from around the world make of this year’s theme.
