Six Spots for Sunset Hunters in Berlin

Oh boy, the weather is warming up and when the sun is shining and the skies are blue, that also means we’re in for a beautiful sunset. But anyone who has been to Berlin knows that this is one of the flattest places in Europe, which means views are not always easy to come by. Never fear, because we’ve put together six of our favourite spots to watch the sun go down (and some of them even have a bar attached).

Klunkerkranich

You might not think that the top deck of a parking garage is the place to be on a hot summer evening, but in Berlin we do things a little different. On the top of the Neukölln shopping mall’s car park you’ll find Klunkerkranich… a rooftop bar with good food, great DJ sets and a fantastic view across the skyline to watch the sun go down.

Tempelhofer Feld

The former Tempelhof airfield is now Berlin’s largest open space and fantastic place to spend a summer evening. Rent bikes from The Circus, swing by a Späti for a couple of beers, make your way down to the park and join the fun. It’s all about the atmosphere on long summer nights, and the feeling of being in such a special, unique place in the heart of the city.

Oberbaumbrücke

Close to the East Side Gallery and its famous stretch of the Berlin Wall, the Oberbaumbrücke crosses the Spree between two of the city’s best nightlife neighbourhoods – Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain. So once you’ve enjoyed the sunset from the bridge, head to Wrangelkiez or the Samariter Quarter where you’ll find loads of bars and restaurants.

Flakturm Humboldhain

Just a few stops north of The Circus at Gesundbrunnen is Humboldthain park and the remains of a Second World War flak tower. The path up to the top of the tower might be steep, but the views are worth it. As well as a popular spot on a summer evening to watch the sun go down over the city, you are close to nearby cultural hotspots such as Panke Culture, Silent Green and Black Wedding.

Viktoria Park

Close to the lively Bergmannkiez – full of great cafes, bars and restaurants – you’ll find one of Berlin’s highest natural hills in Viktoria Park. This lookout point over the city was chosen as the site for the monument dedicated to the Wars of Liberation above a magical waterfall, but today its probably better known as a place to drink beer and wine and enjoy the view.

The Circus Hotel

Last but not least, our very own Circus Hotel. Here you’ll find a rooftop terrace with a brilliant view of the city centre, including all of Berlin’s major landmarks, as well as an honesty bar to keep you refreshed as the sun goes down. The terrace is only available for Circus guests (including the Hostel and Apartments) and is open daily from 8am until 10pm.
