Etiv x The Circus
As long-time followers of The Circus know, we have worked with projects both in Berlin and around the world as part of our commitment to social responsibility. The charities and projects we support usually have some connection to either Berlin (such as our ongoing support for homeless projects in the city) or to our international team.
Over the years we’ve helped build wells in Gambia, support children of prisoners in Thailand, supply active running equipment for children with disabilities in Belarus and renovate early years education classrooms in Nepal, among many others. You can read about the different projects here. Right now, we are working with Etiv do Brasil in the small town of Itacaré and we thought it time to do a little project update.
ETIV – EDUCATE, TRANSFORM, INTEGRATE, VALUE
As with most of our projects, we discovered Etiv do Brasil through a member of our staff. Our wonderful hostel receptionist Luciana has worked together with this NGO and thought it would be a good fit for our latest fundraising activities. With the help of our team and our guests, we are raising money to provide environmental education to reach and empower about 50 youths from some of the lowest income communities in Itacaré in the state of Bahia.
The programme is designed to offer a transformative experience for children and young people, giving them essential skills to address the environmental challenges of our time and become advocates for positive change. The funds we raise are to be used for paying teachers, buying education materials and equipment, as well as funding field trips.
UPDATE – SEPTEMBER 2024
As we were able to send over the first amount we have raised with your help, our friends at Etiv have let us know some of the things they have recently been up to. Using the money from The Circus, they have been hosting a regular film club to help the young people explore the topic of the environment in a fun and engaging way. They have also organised a series of tree-planting days and beach clean-up.
The mix of educational and hands-on activities is part of developing both knowledge but also practical skills. It is often communities such as Itacaré that are hardest hit by the climate crisis and the environmental challenges of our time, and programmes such as Etiv are a step in helping communities understand and take action where it is possible on their doorstep.
We’re really impressed with everything they are doing, and we are still raising funds for Etiv to continue their work. You find details of how you can contribute here and we say thanks for your support in advance, as we know it means a lot to our friends in Brazil.
