It seems almost impossible, but The Circus Hotel is slowly wrapping up what felt like the longest pause in history of mankind. The fact that the year has been the strangest we’ve witnessed since opening its doors back in 2008 hasn’t made anything easier. But it’s almost over, and we are beyond excited to step into 2021 with a revamped design, countless new services and some seriously jaw dropping art pieces. Which is what brings us here today.
As you might already know, we have been collaborating with many artists over the last year. From our wooden wall “carpets” by the award-winning designer Elisa Strozyk, through wall art that will steal your eyes as soon as you step inside our lounge area carved by the creative duo known as Le Troisieme Main, to beautiful custom designed ceramic plates and wall sculptures from Stefanie Hering, it’s safe to say the hotel interior got a proper artistic touch.
And then you step into our courtyard and meet a creation from Cedric le Borgne that is so spectacular you just might forget to breathe for a moment. If you’ve never met a floating fish, now is the time to add that experience to your next Berlin adventure. Hoisted up in the middle of our inner green courtyard we like to call the oasis of The Circus Hotel, the piece defies gravity in the most beautiful way imaginable.
Cedric Le Borgne is a French artist from Toulouse whose incredible light fixtures have slowly taken over the world. If you are an experienced traveler, you might have witnessed his illuminated birds at the Singaporean airport, in Switzerland, France and even London (during a light festival). Our fish were custom designed for The Circus Hotel, created and assembled in Toulouse, then carefully transported over a thousand-mile drive to the heart of Berlin and our home – Rosenthaler Platz.
The fish species transformed into this artistic piece is called Comet and belongs to the goldfish family. Known for its beautiful, forked tail and a playful character, we felt that it would be the perfect match for our daring design and a passion for unconventional shapes and forms. And we think we were right about that. But never mind us, what do you think?
To wrap it up, can we just add the surprising reaction we all had once the fish joined our courtyard sky view? We suddenly stopped being sad about the extremely short November daylight and started getting excited about nighttime, when we knew the sky would light up more beautiful than we could ever have imagined. Talk about an element of surprise!
We are keeping up with the developments in the traveling industry with high hopes of seeing all of you again really soon. Times have not been easy and traveling has become almost an abstract noun but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and in our case, it is fish shaped.
