Seven of the Best Places
For those who eat a plant-based diet, or are simply vegan-curious, Berlin has come a long way in the past few years and the number of options continues to grow. The Circus crew has come together to pick their favourite spots to find vegan food in the city – as well where you can find all the ingredients for a picnic in the park.
FREA
Upscale, modern vegan cuisine in one of the hippest restaurants in Berlin-Mitte. At FREA they only use organic produce and have a zero-waste philosophy. A short walk away and you’ll find the FREA Bakery, with some of the best sourdough bread, vegan pastries and sandwiches in the city – a great spot for a coffee and a snack.
momos
For ten years momos has been the place for organic veggie dumplings in the city – with numerous vegan options available, whether fried or steamed or in a dumpling soup. Don’t miss their mix and match plates, all made with fresh and organic ingredients. They also do takeaway and delivery.
1990 Vegan Living
On the corner of Boxhagener Platz in Friedrichshain – a neighbourhood full of great restaurants and bars – 1990 Vegan Living stands out for their entirely plant-based menu of Vietnamese-style tapas. A great spot to go with a group of friends and order a range of different dishes to share and try.
MARIA Vegan Comfort Food
Yeah, yeah. Being plant-based is healthy and good for the environment, but sometimes what we crave are a burger with loaded fries, a sticky chocolate pudding or mac’n’cheese. At MARIA you can have it all without any animal products at all. Vegan comfort food for those cold Berlin winter days or lazy summer afternoons.
HAKO Ramen
There is no question to us that this ramen place is one of the best in town, and while they offer classic ramen (with meat), they have really upped the ramen game in Berlin with their veggie and vegan choices, all prepared fresh and in front of your eyes with the open kitchen. They have a branch in Kreuzberg and – a little closer to the Circus – in Prenzlauer Berg.
Sotto
Everyone loves pizza, and in the last few years Berlin has caught up when it comes to vegan slices of the good stuff. One of the best in town is Sotto, which specialises in vegan (10 different pizzas on the menu at the last count) and veggie options, including bruschetta and homemade pasta dishes.
