Deliciously retro and absolutely original, Cirque Le Roux delves into a smoky monochrome world of circus arts, Hollywood film noir and physical theatre
Welcome to the luxurious estate of Miss Betty. Caught between her desperate husband, a cheerful best-man, two fumbling butlers and a lustful admirer, our hostess slips away from her wedding reception into a secluded smoking lounge. Cigars, whisky, slapstick and remarkable acrobatics culminate into a turbulent amorous intrigue. Hidden amongst the darkly decadent ambiance, past the quarrels and false pretenses, is an elephant in the room that’s taking up more and more space…

For its reopening the Neue Nationalgalerie is devoting a special exhibition area to the history of its building and the work of its architect, Mies van der Rohe. The two major emphases are on the period of its construction (1965–1968) and its thorough refurbishment by David Chipperfield architects over the past six years (2015–2021). Selected works of art from the Nationalgalerie’s collection relating to the museum’s architecture supplement the documentary exhibit. Along with works by Josef Albers and Isa Genzken, most recent works by Michael Wesely and Veronika Kellndorfer dealing with the renovation are on display.
The Humboldt Lab’s inaugural exhibition
Global environmental changes not only pose a threat to the very basis of our livelihoods; they also have far-reaching repercussions for the political and social structures of societies. The Humboldt Lab’s inaugural exhibition After Nature deals with the interdependencies of climate change and the loss of biodiversity and with worldwide challenges to democratic principles of order.
Welcome to the roaring twenties! at the Wintergarten Varieté – an iridescent evening blurring the lines of today and yesterday is on the menu. The opulent show production 20 20 – The Twenties Variety Revue harks back to Berlin’s most sinful decade – the golden 1920s – while at the same time diving head first into the new 2020s. Not only the stage, but the ambience of the entire building transfigures, true to form, into the perfect 1920s establishment. Together, the Berlin directors Pierre Caesar and Markus Pabst, as well as the talented composer and entertainer Jack Woodhead, resurrect an epoch in which audiences were as addicted to entertainment as they are again today. Always searching for ever new, frivolous sensations.
With “Martha Cooper: Taking Pictures” the URBAN NATION Museum presents the first comprehensive retrospective of Martha Cooper’s photographic work to date. Using photographs and personal objects, the exhibition, which spans six decades, traces Martha Cooper’s life and pays tribute to her as an important documentarist of the worldwide Urban Art movement
The retrospective at the URBAN NATION Museum is the institution’s first photo and documentary exhibition. “Martha Cooper: Taking Pictures” sets new trends in the museum program. The curators Steven P. Harrington and Jaime Rojo (Brooklyn Street Art) in close cooperation with Martha Cooper, have created a multimedia exhibition in which artistic works and documentary material are juxtaposed.
Visitors will receive an exclusive insight into Martha Cooper’s collection of sketchbooks (so-called “Black Books”) and memorabilia as well as into her extensive photo archive. Numerous objects from her personal collection contextualize her work and its cultural and historical relevance.
DARK MATTER is a parallel cosmos of expansive light installations in which the boundaries between the real and the digital worlds become blurred. Within the pitch-black rooms of a converted factory, the visitor embarks on a journey through seven partly interactive works. Light, movement and sound fuse into emotional choreographies of luminous shapes and colors
Built across 1,000 square meters of exhibition space, DARK MATTER presents a range of multimedia installations.
These vary from breathtakingly intimate light compositions, to interactive walk-in structures, and room-encompassing audiovisual performances. Some works are supported with a worldwide unique 3D-soundsystem. Each room possesses an own individual atmosphere that unfolds upon entry, creating a holistic and one-of-a-kind experience; a space to be enjoyed by visitors of all ages and backgrounds.

What do we see? What does it mean to be watched? How does being observed change the way we behave?
In Circa’s Peepshow, a team of acrobats challenge our preconceived notions of voyeurism, contact and intimacy.
Combining elements of circus, cabaret and burlesque in a beautifully bizarre hall of mirrors Circa’s Peepshow is inviting, but also enticingly eerie. Fascinating, wonderful and unsettling all at once.
Over two acts, Circa’s Peepshow sees the acrobats flirt with the possible. They bend to the extreme, build swaying towers of balanced bodies and display intricate aerials. Lightly, powerfully and playfully.

Award-winning contemporary circus ensemble Circa take us on a stirring journey of what it means to be human and of how our bodies, our connections and our aspirations all form part of who we are
Ten acrobats question what it means to be human, displaying the radical physicality that is Circa’s trademark. How much can we carry? And who can we trust to support our load?
Complex choreographies appear light and playful. The laws of gravity don’t seem to apply as the acrobats leap into the air, fall with a smile, twist into one another and build intricate sculptures with their bodies.

Festival for Music, Motorcycles & New Heritage
Here’s what they have to say:
“The Pure&Crafted Festival has always been distinguished by its unique mix. And to be honest, deep in our teenage souls we know what life is all about. It’s about motorbikes, music and cool stuff. But getting these three together is not always easy. That’s what Pure&Crafted is for.
Back in 2015 when it began, there was a new feeling in the air, old values were being rediscovered: good honest craftsmanship, handmade and analogue. Motorcycles with carburettors, guitar music, jeans made from selvedge denim. Custom bikes, guitar music and new-heritage rolled into one. The ultimate cocktail for the new summer of love.”
