Accessibility

Here at The Circus our goal is to welcome everyone to Berlin and to enjoy the best that our city has to offer. At the same time, we need to recognise the limitations of our properties and be as open as possible so that potential guests can make an informed decision about whether our hostel meets your specific needs.

Our rooms

Do you have rooms suitable for wheelchair users?

Room 303 (twin room with shared bathroom) is our most accessible room. It has:

  • Sufficient space for wheelchair turning (150cm minimum turning space)
  • Adequate space around the bed for wheelchair access (minimum 90cm on at least one side)
  • Accessible desk, wardrobe, and seating areas
  • Door width: 93cm (well above the 80cm minimum requirement)
What are the room measurements?
  • Door: 210cm x 93cm
  • Desk height: 70cm
  • Bed height: 64cm
  • Wardrobe height: 175cm+
Are the floors level throughout the hostel?

Yes, floors are level with minimal thresholds between rooms and bathrooms.

Bathrooms

Do you have accessible private bathrooms?

No, we don’t have rooms with private accessible bathrooms. However, we have a shared accessible bathroom on the 3rd floor.

What facilities does the shared accessible bathroom include?

Our shared accessible bathroom on the 3rd floor has:

  • Wide door access (94cm)
  • Walk-in shower with no step or minimal threshold (maximum 2cm)
  • Grab rails installed in both shower and beside toilet
  • Standard height toilet (46-48cm)
  • Wheelchair accessible washbasin (80-85cm height with knee space underneath)
  • Shower chair available
  • Accessible emergency call system

Technology and room controls

Are the room controls accessible?

Light switches are positioned at accessible height (85-105cm).

We do not have televisions, telephones or air conditioning in any of our rooms.

Common areas and building access

Is the main entrance to The Circus Hostel accessible?

Yes, the main entrance is step-free.

Is the reception desk accessible?

The reception desk is higher than 80cm and there isn’t a lowered section.

Can I access all floors?

We have a lift for all accommodation floors that is accessible with:

  • Doors at least 80cm wide
  • Cabin minimum 110cm x 140cm
  • Maximum weight capacity: 1000kg

Our basement (for bar, luggage room and public toilets) is accessible via a wheelchair lift. This has a maximum weight limit of 250kg and is not suitable for electronic wheelchairs – only standard wheelchairs.

Are the social spaces accessible?

The café is accessible with appropriate table heights and space. The bar is accessible via a wheelchair lift. This has a maximum weight limit of 250kg and is not suitable for electronic wheelchairs – only standard wheelchairs.

Are there accessible public toilets on the ground floor?

No, but you can use the lift to access the accessible toilets on the 3rd floor or the wheelchair lift to the accessible toilets in the basement.

Are emergency exits accessible?

Yes, emergency exits are clearly marked and accessible.

Services and support

Is your staff trained in accessibility awareness?

Our staff have received basic accessibility awareness training.

Can staff provide assistance when needed?

Our staff are available 24 hours a day to provide assistance when required.

Is accessibility information available when booking?

We are currently working on making accessibility information clearly available during the booking process.

Getting to The Circus Hostel

What parking options are available?

We don’t have on-site accessible parking. The Circus Apartments (five minutes walk) has an underground parking garage with elevator access to the ground floor.

What public transport options are accessible?
  • Metro: U8 Rosenthaler Platz has a lift at Brunnenstraße
  • Tram: Stops directly in front of the house with level platform entry/exit. Tram drivers can also assist via a dedicated call button.

Yes, our luggage storage areas are accessible via the elevator from reception to the basement or we can assist directly.

Can guests with mobility needs join social activities?

Yes, guests with mobility needs can participate in social activities.
