Easter in Berlin

OUR BERLIN

From Bach to Bonfires

Berlin in the springtime is arguably when our home city is in its very best of moods, perhaps because it marks the end of what can sometimes be a long, cold (but often beautiful) winter. If you are planning a trip to Berlin this Easter, whether for a long weekend or a more extended stay, you can expect to see blossom on the trees, the first cafe terraces open for business and a mix of traditional events and more contemporary attractions.

Easter weekend in 2026 takes place in early April, and if you are looking for the perfect city-break for a long weekend then we would love to see you at The Circus. Remember: book directly with us for the best prices, whether you want to stay at The Circus Hotel, Hostel or Apartments.

What’s on at Easter in Berlin in 2026?

Take a dip in the Wannsee on Good Friday

The Easter swim marks the beginning of the season at Berlin’s most famous bathing beach and so you’ll find a few brave souls taking to the water on Good Friday at Strandbad Wannsee. This historic bathing spot has been a favourite of Berliners since the 1920s and is a popular spot to cool down during the summer… but of course, Berlin being Berlin, the Good Friday swim has occasionally been accompanied by a dusting of snow!

Getting there from The Circus (Rosenthaler Platz): S7 from Hackescher Markt to Nikolassee (approx 60 mins).

Easter Bonfire at Brizer Garten

A slightly warmer tradition, both in Berlin but also in some towns and villages in Brandenburg, are Easter bonfires. There are a number of bonfires taking place across the city, but possibly the most famous and picturesque is the one held on Easter Saturday at Britzer Garten. This year it is expected that the tulips will be in bloom, and you can also join a number of guided tours throughout the garden over Easter weekend.

Sakura at the Gardens of the World

People travel from around the world to Japan in springtime to see the cherry blossom, but did you know we have our own Sakura displays in Berlin? Along the path of the Berlin Wall there are more than 9,000 trees that were given to the city by the people of Japan following reunification in 1990 (the closest to The Circus are at Bornholmer Straße), or you can head to the Gardens of the World where they have special tours over Easter weekend to see the best of this natural display.

Good Friday concert at the Konzerthaus

Each year on Good Friday the Konzerthaus on Gendarmenmarkt holds a special concert. This year, under the direction of conductor Stephanie Childress, the performance will include works from Strauss, Liszt, Pärt and Britten, as the traditional concert “creates a space for contemplation and music devotion”.

Bach at the Berlin Cathedral

Another of the musical highlights of Easter weekend is Good Friday with Bach. Organ works by the legendary composer are performed by the prizewinning cathedral organist at the Berliner Dom and entrance is free

The beer gardens are (perhaps) open!

Easter weekend is also the time that many cafes and restaurants open out their tables, pull the outdoor chairs from storage and open up their terraces for the first time. And it also marks the opening of some of Berlin’s most famous beer gardens… depending on the weather of course.

The closest beer garden to The Circus is also the oldest… The Prater has been welcoming thirsty guests since it was opened a kilometre or so from the Berlin city walls in 1837. Since then the city has grown up around it, but it still remains one of the best spots to grab an alfresco beer, a sausage, and soak up the atmosphere in the shadow of the horse chestnut trees.
