The tale you are about to hear is set in 1853, a time when Berlin was still surrounded by a custom’s wall and the Rosenthal Gate would have stood just in front of the hotel building. But the city was beginning to grow, and alongside the factories and new houses came the ballrooms and circuses to keep the rising population entertained…
